Her: “why?”

Me: “because we’re outside, in the air, not near anyone, and I’m not sick.”

Her: “How do you know you’re not sick?”

Me: “Because I know I’m not sick. I know what’s going on right now, and if I were even a little bit sick, I would stay home”.

Her: “That’s selfish!”

Me: “That’s suuuuper judgmental, honestly. We are literally outside, in 90 degree weather, away from anyone else. Who should I be wearing a mask for at this moment?”

Her: “Me”

Me: “If you’re scared of me, why are we here? What are we supposed to do while we chat and eat? So you’re scared of me not being masked up while we’re in line for food, but as long as we sit facing each other, across a table, talking and eating, that’s safe? Explain this logic.”

Her: “I just don’t understand the rabid anti-maskers. Explain this to me.”

Me: “I’ve never had to formulate these thoughts all together, so here we go…..Number one, I’m not rabid, I’m reasonable. And I try to stay intellectually consistent. Since there’s just no possible way to know what’s true right now, so I tend to believe what was told to us for the first months in the beginning of all of this stuff. Before it was politicized. Before numbers were manipulated. Before scare tactics were employed. Before nonsense rules were made to keep us locked down indefinitely. Before the lies.

What has been true for viruses for ages, I believe, holds true for this one. Though it may manifest in different symptoms, a virus is a virus. So I tend to believe what the CDC, Dr. Fauci, The WHO, every single doc on every single nightly news network said BEFORE this thing went crazy. That is that healthy people don’t need masks. Wash your hands. Stay home if you’re sick. Wash your hands again. Sneeze into your sleeve. Take your vitamins. Wash your hands. Keep your distance. Stay hydrated. Get rest.

All of that is the way we have dealt with every virus that roams around on the planet for as long as we’ve been alive. And at some point, it’s how we are going to have to deal with this one. I was a good citizen and I listened and complied with everything in the beginning, for months, until stuff just didn’t make sense anymore. Until numbers started being inflated. Until it didn’t make sense anymore.

There are equally as many doctors on the side of “you don’t need to wear masks” as there are on the “Mask up” side. Difference is, they’re silenced. Who to believe? So, I believe what was said before this all started.”

Her: “I agree, this thing is crazy and we don’t really know what to believe. They all said no masks in the beginning, but they agree now.”

Me: “See, I don’t think they do. I think the ones they’re showing us do! I think they’re saying it now because people are in a panic about a virus we can’t control and don’t understand and masks set people at ease and is something we can visibly see and control. And if the point is health and to control the virus, and cloth masks were shown ineffective, why not mandate that people wear only surgical masks (45% effective) or N95’s (95% effective).

I guess it’s the whole “face covering” thing I can’t get on board with and that makes me question the motive behind all of this. If it’s a keep people safe issue, then a bandanna does nothing. A cloth mask does nothing…. yet they are acceptable. And that doesn’t make any sense. That tells me it’s not about safety. It’s about virtue signalling. Which is why I go back to what the standard has always been before all the crazy broke out. Now don’t get me wrong. I carry a mask with me. It’s right here in my purse.

I’ll put it on if it makes sense to do so. I’m a business owner & I don’t want to be forced to make the cake if it’s a cake I don’t want to make, so I’m not going to force any business to allow me in without a mask. Their biz, their rules. If I want the thing bad enough, I’ll mask up and not fuss. But driving with a mask on… insane. Walking outside with one on… so stupid.

And for an outside lunch today with a friend, nope. Not reasonable at all. And I really take issue with the fact that a bunch of people are running around, with their cloth masks on, thinking they are morally superior to me or anyone else. That’s bothersome, and so when I don’t have to, I choose not to.”

Then we had lunch and had a fine time and laughed, unmasked, while eating, with our faces directly toward one another. Again I will say, it’s the manipulated numbers and the lying politicians that cause reasonable people to rightly question everything. Don’t hold us responsible for our suspicions. If your man lies to you about another woman, and that happens a numerous times, you’re gonna be suspicious too and stop believing. It’s no different when it’s a government entity.
