I decided to change the name of the community because I realize that as passionate as I am about veganism, I want to form a community that is working to do something that all sane people want–to abolish slavery of all forms. I still am passionate about veganism, and anyone who lives here will need to eat a plant-based diet while on the property. Anyone who is a full member needs to commit to veganism as a life style. But I realize that until this issue of slavery in our world is addressed, a lot of people will not be focused on helping animals.
I hope that people will be so committed to abolishing slavery that they might be willing to change their diet and live a simple life with a focused on service. The early Christians made a profound difference in their society by doing this. Not all people who live here will call themselves Christians, but all who are dedicated to helping abolish slavery can have a uniting commitment that can help us live together harmoniously.
I named the community after William Wilberforce who spearheaded the abolishment of most slavery in the British Empire. He is my hero. You can learn more about him here: https://www.wilberforceschool.org/updated-about-us/william-wilberforce
“William Wilberforce…was a great man who impacted the Western world as few others have done. Blessed with brains, charm, influence and initiative, much wealth … he put evangelicalism on Britain’s map as a power for social change, first by overthrowing the slave trade almost single-handed and then by generating a stream of societies for doing good and reducing evil in public life… To forget such men is foolish.”– J.I. PACKER
I have been inspired by the movie, The Sound of Freedom, which is based on the true story of Tim Ballard and how he saved children from sex trafficking. The movie is a great success, telling me that finally there is a cause I can get behind where anyone who has a shred of decency can get behind. My goal is to bring individuals, churches, government agencies, and businesses together to coordinate an effort to make Madison County a place where human trafficking is abolished, and help other counties do the same.
I hope to find someone who wants to use part of the 18 acres that comprises the community–who wants to have a home for rehabilitating trafficked children.
I would love to know what you think about this!
Please go see The Sound of Freedom. It is the best movie I have ever seen, and it is starting a movie-ment. (I made up that word–and truly it is a movement inspired by a movie).
Learn more about the movie and how you can either get free tickets or pay it forward to help people who can’t afford the movie be able to see it. https://www.angel.com/press/release/angel-studios-announces-new-film-sound-of-freedom-starring-jim-caviezel
Doesn’t that mean vegans will have a harder time realizing you’re the commune they want to be apart of if it’s not explicitly stated? I don’t get it, if everyone at the commune is vegan then why not say it?
Btw, idk how you’re vegan and Christian… Go Vegan Jesus!
You know what, you might be right about this! However, I want to draw people into the vision of abolishing all forms of slavery. Many people would be turned off by the name vegan. I will be reaching out to vegans as well as people who might consider changing their diet.
I think in terms of marketing, outreach to specific people and groups is going to be more effective than just being able to be searched.
I do need to get a theme where I can have a sub heading, and perhaps I will put the word vegan in that.
Being Christian and vegan go hand in hand!
thanks for your input!
As for “rehabilitation” (there has to be a better word) services you might reach out to New Day for Children in California. I support and commend them. You might compare ideas or contacts, etc. https://newdayforchildren.com/
Thank you so much. I will check that resource out
