Value: Living Simply

So many of the problems of this world could be easily solved if everyone would adopt this value, don’t you think? How many issues come from over-consumption and materialism–lots! Although the community values include using technology wisely, including AI as I am using in order to define the values more easily–in many areas of our existence we will live extremely simply. For example, if we learn how to be more resistant to cold, we can go barefoot in the snow, wear shorts and t-shirts in the winter, and not have to have a super warm house! Well, okay, that is pretty extreme. But it is a long term goal I have. There are ways to learn about how to do such things. https://borntolivebarefoot.org/you-can-go-barefoot-in-cold-weather/

I’m so committed to simple living that I call myself a simplified living coach. http://www.becomeorganized.wordpress.com My life is not as simple as I would like right now as I am juggling many roles, but in a community when we share things like lawn mowers, chain saws, all kinds of tools, common house that has all we need like internet, electricity, lights–it is much easier to live a simple existence because stuff is shared along with tasks.

Living close to nature was something I initially stated as combined with simple living–but now I realize that is a different topic. So I will make another blog post about that. Please share your thoughts about how to live simply.

Living simply and close to nature means embracing a lifestyle that prioritizes harmony with the environment and minimalism in daily life. This approach often involves:

  • Reducing consumption: Minimizing the use of resources, such as energy, water, and materials, to reduce one’s ecological footprint.
  • Connecting with nature: Spending time outdoors, appreciating the beauty of nature, and recognizing the interconnectedness of all living things.
  • Simplifying daily life: Letting go of unnecessary possessions, commitments, and distractions to focus on what truly adds value and meaning to life.
  • Embracing self-sufficiency: Growing one’s own food, collecting rainwater, and using renewable energy sources to reduce reliance on external systems.

Some common practices associated with living simply and close to nature include:

  • Gardening and permaculture
  • Minimalist living and decluttering
  • Eco-friendly transportation and energy use
  • Mindfulness and meditation
  • Sustainable food systems and local eating

By living simply and close to nature, individuals can:

  • Reduce stress and increase well-being
  • Develop a deeper appreciation for the natural world
  • Cultivate a sense of community and connection with others
