In my early thirties — more than forty years ago now — I became captivated by the field of music therapy. I wanted to pursue it as a vocation, to formally study the healing effects of music on the human body, mind, and spirit. Life took me in other directions, and somehow that passion faded into the background. But it never truly left me. And recently, it has come back to life in the most unexpected and wonderful way: I have discovered music specifically written and designed to rewire the brain.
Her name is Alison Herron, and what she has built is remarkable.
I am fortunate to be very healthy but since I want to live to at least 120 so I can enjoy as much of the future generations who live here on the multigenerational homestead that I am a part of, I need tools like this! And so does our family.
Thanks to Claude.ai for researching and writing this article.
Who Is Alison Herron?
Alison Herron is the creator of Faith Squared Music — a faith-based, Christ-centered project born out of her own extraordinary recovery from serious chronic illness. She is not a therapist or a scientist. She speaks from lived experience, which is precisely what gives her work its credibility and its warmth.
The terms “brain rewiring” and “neuroplasticity” were completely unfamiliar to her until May of 2020, when she was part of an online support group for people with EHS (electromagnetic hypersensitivity) and came across a comment by someone saying they had found success in overcoming EHS through something that had “reprogrammed their brain.” That single comment changed the course of her life.
She took action, ordered a brain-rewiring program, and got to work. It changed her life immediately. Though the progress was often slow, seeing evidence of real healing manifest itself right away reignited the light of hope that had almost gone out. With that hope, she walked straight out of the darkness and into the light.
At her lowest point, she made a promise to God: if He brought her through whatever was happening to her, she would do whatever it took to prevent others from suffering as she had. Faith Squared Music is how she is fulfilling that promise.
What Is Brain Rewiring — and What Does Faith Have to Do With It?
Experts in neuroplasticity compare the limbic system to an alarm system. When activated, it responds by flooding the body with cortisol, norepinephrine, and adrenaline — chemicals designed to help us respond to danger. But when the brain is overwhelmed by major traumas or long-term stress, it can become locked into believing it must work even harder to protect us, even when there is no real threat present. This state of over-vigilance — and the continuing flood of agitating chemicals that accompany it — can manifest as mental or emotional illness, very real physical symptoms, and deep spiritual distress.
The good news, and this is the heart of Alison’s message, is that brains wired to over-react to perceived threats can be rewired. Neuroplasticity is the brain’s built-in capacity to change itself — to form new pathways, to quiet old alarms, to return to wholeness. You can read more about the science and the faith foundation behind it at faith-squared.com/about-brain-rewiring.
For Alison, this science and her Christian faith are not two separate things. They are one continuous truth. Principles of neuroplasticity, when applied in harmony with the teachings of Jesus Christ, empower us to turn fear into peace, despair into joy, and illness into health. Our bodies — including our brains — were made in the image of God, with the built-in ability to heal. We simply need to learn specific tools for aligning our thoughts, words, emotions, and intentions with that design.
The Free Songs
Faith Squared Music tracks are available on Spotify, Amazon Music, Apple Music, Pandora, YouTube Music, and dozens of other streaming platforms. You can find links to all of them, and download MP3s of every song for free, at faith-squared.com/our-music.
The songs are not simply inspirational music to listen to passively. They are carefully crafted tools. The lyrics are written in the first person so that the messages delivered while singing along are carried from your own mouth to your own brain and heart. Your voice becomes the instrument. Your repetition becomes the practice. This is intentional and rooted in the science of how neural pathways are formed and strengthened.
One beautiful window into Alison’s creative spirit: she wrote a parody of a beloved tune from The Wizard of Oz, explaining that learning she had the power to heal from her own symptoms resonated deeply with Dorothy’s journey — the discovery, after she thought she had run out of options, that she had possessed the power all along to get where she needed to go.
The Dance Program
Alison has also created an online program called Faith Squared Dance — specifically for anyone wanting a joyful and powerful way to support neuroplastic healing. She describes it as much more than simply a dance program.
Movement, she teaches, is medicine. She encourages people to dance, sing, walk, engage in creative projects — anything enjoyable and physically safe that brings the body and spirit into alignment. She also recommends reciting scripture, hymn lyrics, or poetry that focuses attention on optimism, hope, and a brighter future. Joy itself, it turns out, is a healing practice.
Where to Begin
A wonderful place to start is the YouTube video The most mind-blowing recovery story I’ve ever heard (Alison Herron), posted very recently, which offers a full picture of her story in her own words.
From there, the music is waiting for you — free to stream, free to download, free to sing.
What Alison has built is a gift. She is not selling a program. She is fulfilling a promise.
