Some updates on the garden

This is a post I made in our Healing Gardens chat group. Friends and neighbors encourage each other in their gardening. I thought I would share this very informal post with you to give you an idea of what I do in the winter in regards to gardening.

We have seeds for a giant gourd/squash plant that we look forward to trying, and saving seeds for. I still have winter squash in a cool room–sweetening up–so I am still eating butternut, spaghetti squash and acorn squash from garden.

I just planted greens in the low hoop houses, and will plant some radishes, beets and carrots soon. I am committed to growing most of my tomatoes and peppers, in my grow room–and get them in by February I hope to grow my own sweet potatoes slips–how I love sweet potatoes.

I’m doing research on growing potatoes in containers. I might use large feed bags because you can role them down for when the potatoes start. I’ll let you know

I’m grinding up leaves with my weedeater into fine mulch for the seedlings I planted.

I got my seed order in I am SO much more on top of gardening things than ever in my life–and it feels great!

I bought potting soil at walmart–which I rarely do (I like to make my own) but I haven’t got peat moss–I think it will be good to repot my houseplants in light potting soil. I do need to get peat moss to make my own potting mixture.

I take water from my shower that I capture, put the urine that I save and add a handful of ashes–about 3 gallons of water, 1 quart urine and handful of ashes–and I toss them on my garden beds that have lots of organic material covering them.
