Value: Consistent Life Ethic

I have been pro-life (against abortion unless the mother’s life is clearly endangered because of the baby’s presence) since I was twenty one when I met Cliff Mikkelson. He is now my former husband, present friend, and lives right next door to the Wilberforce Village site. I feel very grateful for him to waking me up to the fact that abortion is killing a baby. Before that, I saw abortion as a form of birth control and had no idea how destructive this procedure is for the mother, the baby, and often friends and family who are involved. I had a conversation once with a pro-choice friend who shared that his girlfriend got pregnant, and she didn’t want the child. He was willing to take care of the baby, but she got an abortion anyway. He really suffered because of that. Fathers often suffer because of the decision of the woman.

Yet still, he is pro-choice! I have empathy for people who are brainwashed to believe that a woman should have control over her own body, but the problem is that there is another life involved. I believe that most people, including vegans, who are pro-choice have the best of intentions, but they don’t realize that killing innocents in the womb is actually murdering an innocent creature.

I am happy that there are pro-life vegans on line in two Facebook groups, one of which is https://www.facebook.com/groups/603011886411541

The Consistent Life Network website has this article about the parallels between pro-life views and veganism https://consistent-life.org/blog/index.php/2018/06/05/veganism-and-pro-lifeism/

Thanks to AI for this description:

Based on the provided search results, the consistent life ethic (CLE) is an ideology that opposes:

  • Abortion
  • Capital punishment
  • Assisted suicide
  • Euthanasia

Additionally, adherents to the CLE typically:

  • Oppose war, or at the very least, unjust war
  • Some adherents may go as far as full pacifism and oppose all war

The CLE also emphasizes the dignity of every person and rejects discrimination on any grounds, including race, nationality, social condition, or sex. It encourages a holistic approach to life, considering the moral implications of political choices and public policies in light of the Gospel.

In essence, the consistent life ethic promotes a commitment to preserving and promoting human life and the well-being of others in all aspects of life, from conception to natural death, and rejects actions that intentionally take or harm human life. (End of AI Description)

Patricia says: I am including this AI generated description to show how anti-abortion/prolife views are similar to vegan views. I was really encouraged when I attended a secular pro-life conference which was organized by an animal rights activist vegan. Most of the speakers were Christian, including David Daleidan, founder of Center for Medical Progress and the leader in exposing Planned Parenthood’s illegal harvesting and selling of aborted baby body parts. This is not only a Christian issue.

Similarities between Veganism and Anti-Abortion/Pro-Life Views

While veganism and anti-abortion/pro-life views may seem unrelated at first glance, some similarities have been observed:

  • Respect for life: Both veganism and anti-abortion/pro-life views emphasize the importance of respecting and valuing life.
  • Opposition to exploitation: Vegans often argue that animals are exploited for food, while anti-abortion/pro-life advocates argue that unborn children are exploited through abortion.
  • Focus on vulnerable populations: Vegans often highlight the vulnerability of animals in the food industry, while anti-abortion/pro-life advocates focus on the vulnerability of unborn children.
  • Emphasis on compassion and empathy: Both veganism and anti-abortion/pro-life views encourage individuals to consider the well-being and feelings of others, whether animals or unborn children.
