Pre-requisites for living in Wellspring Community

  • answer the questionnaire, provide references, and have a phone or video interview.
  • If mutually agreed, come for a 3 week trial period to explore possibilities of longer term provisional membership or internship.
  • Bring the following supplies
  • Tent and sleeping gear.  We have two large tent platforms where you can pitch a tent, or you can pitch tent in the forest.
  • Everything (except food, and kitchen items) you would need to backpack for 3 weeks, including toilet paper, first aid kit etc. Here is a list to look at.
  • Beans, rice, oats and other staples that  will last for your food for 3 weeks will go into the common food supply. (if you get serious about coming, we will give exact amounts.
  • $75 per week for rent and for the time it takes for community members to screen potential members
  • Expect to participate in all community events including twice-daily 1/2 hour, non religious meditations, recreational fun, conflict resolution/prevention activities, decision making activities, common meals, and evening social connections.
  • Expect to work at least 35 hours which might include wild edible gathering, permaculture gardening, building, vegan food prep and cleaning. You will  learn a lot just by participating. We hope to learn from you, also.
  • If it is mutually agreed upon by community members and visitors, that we are all a good fit, then visitors can become provisional members.
  •  Provisional membership lasts for 2 months at least. This will be an intensive time where building trust between community members and Provisional Members (PM’s) is essential.  PM’s need to continue to provide everything that they provided as visitors.
  • PM”s can apply to become full members after the 2 month trial period if accepted, then a transition period will begin where they will have such privileges as:
  • a small land holding where they can build a shelter
  • influence in decision making–without being able to change the already existing structures including basic goals, vision, mission values rules. This privilege happens after a member is living in community for a year.
  • After a year of residence (not including visitor period) members can apply to be on the board of directors of the Limited Liability Corporation that holds the land in common.
