Ever since March 20, 2023, when I left my caretaking position at the log house at Prayer Lake (near Kingston) after being there for 7 years. Robert Kersbergen stayed on, so I wasn’t concerned about the place which I had grown quite attached to, having good care.
I posted very little on Facebook because I was so busy! The adventures I had during the 3 1/2 months were experiences that helped me to clarify my vision and values for the Wilberforce Village project. Watching the movie, The Sound of Freedom inspired me to re-name the community I am facilitating the creation of, after one of the greatest social change agents I have learned about–William Wilberforce.
Visiting a community land trust in northern Missouri, having a tree fall on my car resulting in a very funny looking but functional vehicle, diving into creating a non-residential community in Eureka Springs, working on the biggest organizing job of my 23 year long career, helping heal a depressed Great Pyrenees dog, and earning enough money to start finishing the common house where I now live all combined to help me be ready to actualize my dreams of intentional community.
I have kept up my morning spiritual practice of connecting with Jesus in such a way that helps me to keep my faith in the goodness of our Creator and to heal my past traumas which have kept me in unconscious patterns of action which have been detrimental to my ability to be a community initiator.
I feel hopeful that I am more aware of my weaknesses and strengths so that I can be a healthy facilitator of community, and able to find people with whom I can be mutually supportive in our efforts to create a community where we live harmoniously with each other, all of life, and work together to end slavery of all forms so that all can thrive.
I’m going to be writing in my blog more regularly and if you want to stay in touch, please do subscribe. www.wilberforcevillage.com
